DESCRIPTION BOOK : I was a fat and pimply teenager. Other children laughed at me, picked on me, and called me names like “fatso” or “lard-ass.” Nobody wanted to be my friend. No one liked me. I spent hours sitting at the computer when other kids played basketball, football, and all kinds of other games. They would never ask me to join their team, and I would never dare invite myself. There were many beautiful girls in our class—bold, athletic, with long hair and short skirts. Some of them had already been dating other guys and looked very confident but were absolutely unattainable to people like me. One of them was Jessica. She had green eyes and wonderful blonde curls. I liked her more than I’d ever liked anyone but couldn’t even think about approaching her. Jessica simply wouldn’t notice me, as if I didn’t exist, as if I was just some ugly piece of furniture beneath her notice.
In those days, the only way to strangle the thoughts of how disgusting and boring I was, was to shift my focus by eating away my bitterness at the whole world with chips, burgers, muffins, and soda.
My parents were so desperate to convince me that my appearance was not that important. They insisted that I focus on school, get a good education, and become successful. Then, they said, no one would even notice what I looked like. But I wanted, I wished, to be noticed. I dreamed of being thin and athletic and that those damn zits on my face were gone...
So, my parents’ best way of dealing with this was to send me away to Italy for the summer to live with my grandmother...
What happened next, I describe later, but now, words like “fat” or “aisle blocker” are not used when people talk about me.
From this book, you will learn that it is not at all necessary to be on exhausting diets and work out in the gym for days; you don’t have to count every single calorie all the time and punish yourself for not being able to resist and eating dessert. If you didn’t eat dessert today, would that make you happier?
Here’s a suggestion. Start changing your life the way I changed it. Start doing at least something to achieve your dreams. I did this by trying, observing, analyzing, and it was my experience that helped me to feel what it really meant to be healthy and happy.
